Baum Fest: Barcelona Art & Urban Movement 2024 edition

The 2024 edition of Baum Fest, Barcelona Art & Urban Movement, took place over the weekend of October 4th, 5th, and 6th, serving as a meeting point for those looking to explore and engage with urban culture. More than 250 tattoo artists brought international tattooing to the heart of beautiful, sunny Barcelona, inside Pavilion 8 of Fira de Barcelona at Plaza España, the city’s most renowned location for festivals and exhibitions.

The Barcelona Tattoo Expo is one of the most traditional events in the tattoo world,” said Mik Garreta, the historic organizer of this event and a well-known figure among attendees of major tattoo conventions for his long-standing support to tattoo culture.

We offer our city the opportunity to get tattooed by artists from around the world, using traditional techniques or specializing in various styles such as realism, traditional, or Japanese, among others. People come from all over Spain and abroad to find inspiration, ideas, or the latest trends, enjoy live art, and get tattooed!

The tattoo convention is part of the broader Barcelona Art & Urban Movement, which aims to reflect and give voice to urban culture and its artistic expressions. This festival offers a stage where the best b-boys and b-girls compete in spectacular dance battles, allowing both dancers and audiences to experience the essence of breaking in its purest form.

More than just a competition, it’s a tribute to the creativity and resilience of urban culture, where every move tells a story and every battle is a work of art in itself, featuring everything from dance to graffiti, DJs, and various activities, including street biking and trap music.

The event has established itself as a place where the ancestral and contemporary meet, creating a unique atmosphere. This balance between tradition and modernity has been key to attracting thousands of attendees, generating an unforgettable atmosphere. With over 18,500 visitors by Sunday afternoon, the attendance reflects the growing interest in this type of festival and the appeal of urban art today.

“This year was special because we wanted to dedicate this edition of the convention to MAO, who passed away last April, my friend and companion with whom I shared much of my journey in the tattoo world. On the jury during the contests, we had the honor of having Cathy, MAO’s wife, with whom we celebrated his passing with a traditional “Kava” the Samoan traditional ritual, on Sunday morning. This tribute was attended by his close friends and could be witnessed by the entire audience.

Alongside Cathy on the jury during the three days were Robert Hernandez, Herke, Oscar Garcia, Max Ghostar, Carlos Fabra, Debora Cherrys, Yomico Moreno, Iko, Ganso Galvao and José Monzón, who selected the winners of the various tattoo contests that animated the central stage throughout the event.
