We are excited to announce the BBC βmorning liveβ scar cover-up tattoo interview with Mei Ling and tattoo artist Jo Harrison, following Mei Lingβs double mastectomy tattoo journey.
Mei Ling, a GP and mom of two knew exactly what the lump was as soon as her hand brushed over it. So many things went through her mind, how would she cope with the treatment bringing up two children on her own and would she even be around for them when they grow up.
Tattooing can play a huge part in a clients recovery journey. Mei Ling went on Josβ waiting list for a scar cover-up tattoo before she even had her surgery! However, as her story unfolded she decided to chose a tattoo to adorn the area rather than covering the scars. A celebration of how strong her and her children are and the journey they have been through together! What better symbology than the phoenix!
Here you will see their project to date, catch the full interview on βmorning liveβ on BBC iPlayer and follow Jo on instagram @JoHarrison_tattoo for updates on this project and many more like it.
There are many options available for clients who have had a mastectomy and wish to decorate the area with a tattoo. From nipple reconstruction, tattoos over implants or beautiful designs where the breast or breasts have been completely removed.
Below you will find a selection of Josβ mastectomy tattoosβ¦
If you can find an experienced tattoo artist to work with, itβs possible to tattoo over many types of scarring, from keloids to stretch marks and atrophic/hypertrophic scars. With the right tattoo design the scars are hidden and can give the client back their confidence, itβs a very important part of the healing journey for many people bringing closure to a very difficult time.
